When identical twins are born, they look like they will grow up to be the same person. Twins have the the same face, the same body, the same voice, typically even the same mannerisms early in life. Even their parents may need assistance in identifying who is who when they are just children. Although twins start off in life looking exactly like each other, each individual holds a very different soul, and they tend to grow into very different individuals after all.
Photographer Gao Rongguo created an exhibit/art series that focuses on how life molds and forms each individual. He studied twins that grew up in his native home of Shandong province of China, and took an amazing collection of comparison photos. Gao wanted to allow others to reflect on the differences that life and experience can have on us all, but it is especially apparent in identical twins.
No two people have the same experience in life. Many will have a road paved with hardship, while others may be blessed with an easier path. We will all suffer tragic losses and celebrate great triumphs. All of these experiences will inevitably change us, but that is what going through life is about. It’s up to the individual to determine how much these experiences will change them.
