Okunoshima, Japan is a place that you should definitely visit at least once in your lifetime.
It’s better known by its nickname – “Bunny Island” because it’s inhabited by thousands of wild rabbits. Recently, a couple decided to go hiking on Okunoshima and came home with many mementos of the trip. I am unbelievably jealous right now
The couple was traveling through Japan when they decided to stop at Ōkunoshima.
It ‘s an island located about 40 miles east of Hiroshima which used to be Used for Animal Research.
There are picnic sites and hiking trails frequented by travelers, but the real attraction is the rabbit population.
The wild bunnies living on the island are tame and will approach humans without fear.
Moreso if you have snacks up for offer
The rabbits were released after the war when the experimentation ended.
Naturally, their population exploded without natural predators and 70 years later, they rule the island
Now the only other presences on the island are a hotel, camping ground, and golf course
You can also swim in the clean water surrounding the island when you visit
If you’re not too busy dancing with the rabbits that is
Hired staff keeps the island very clean and well maintained, despite all the bunny droppings
You can buy rabbit food for the bunnies while visiting
Visits basically become never-ending waves of cuteness
