NEW YORK CITY — A former Department of Correction officer shot and killed a man in a busy Brooklyn subway station Tuesday night, New York City police said.
The shooting took place during the evening rush at the Borough Hall station in downtown Brooklyn. Lexington Avenue Line trains in both directions were skipping the station, PIX 11 reported. The victim was in his 20s according to police. He was taken to Brooklyn Hospital Center following the incident.
Norman Seabrook, the head of the New York City Correction Officer Benevolent Association, confirmed that the shooter was a retired DOC officer.
“We should not rush to judgment before we know all the facts,” Seabrook told BuzzFeed News.
The NYPD did not immediately release the name of the victim or the gunman.
The DOC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
