In every culture, the common views on what is acceptable and what is not changes over the years.  At a recent point in western history, women were treated as objects.  They were given no rights, outright disrespected, and the subject of countless jokes.  It’s hard to believe that less than a century ago, these ads were actually considered acceptable.

Thankfully, this sort of chauvinism is far less rampant nowadays.  It’s hard to believe it was okay to advertise such blatant sexism, although there are a whole bunch of different issues women have to face.
